REGULAR ACTIVITIES

CULTURAL

1.One of our regular and important activities in last one decade include conducting of Drawing Classes for the young minds. This activity is affiliated to Haryana University.

2. 12th January - Celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday Anniversary

3. 23rd January - Celebration of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Birth Anniversary

4. 26th January - Republic Day Celebration

5. 15th August - Independence Day Celebration

6. Besides the above, Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti is also celebrated in the month of May/June every year.

GAMES & SPORTS

1. In this category, our regular activities include conducting Yoga Classes by the eminent Coaches for last one decade in our Samity Building. The trained students have brought laurels from various All Bengal/India Championship.

2. 23rd January - Drawing Competition & Volleyball Tournament

3. 26th January - Annual Sports of Vivekananda Nagar

4. During December-January, Cricket Tournament.

5. During April-May, Football Tournament

6.In addition to the above, Cricket/Volleyball/ Badminton/Caram/Card competition are arranged at appropriate season.


SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

1. Providing financial help to the needy people of the area in their need, such as –

7. To represent and pursue with the competent authorities on behalf of the people of Vivekanandanagar for their any kind of social needs.

FEW SPECIAL ACTIVITIES DONE IN
RECENT PAST


1. In the year 2003, we had organised the following programmes :-

1. FREE Hepatities-B Camp (3 doses) in co-operation with West Bank Hospital.
2. FREE Heart/Sugar Checking Camp in co-operation with West Bank Hospital.

2. In the year 2004, we had organised a grand celebration in 142nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with the following programmes :

1. Blood Donation Camp for the aid of patients of Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital.
2. "Sanghati Daur" (Harmony Run)
3. Installation of Statue of Swami Vivekananda by Mr. Md. Salim, the then Hon’ble Minister of Govt. of West Bengal.
4. "Speeches" on Swamiji by Hon’ble Minister Mr. Md. Salim, Mr. Baharuddin of Aajkal Patrika and other eminent personalities.
5. Cultural Programme (Song – Mr. Ramkumar Chatterjee, Mrs. Bratati Mazumdar, Recitation – Mr. Satinath Mukherjee, Mrs. Saswati Pal and others).

3. In the year 2005, we had organised a large "Sampriti Padayatra" (Walk for peace) around the Thanamakhua Gram Panchayet alongwith the inhabitants of Vivekanandanagar with the following programmes :-

1. March Past
2. Tabaloes displaying peace and harmony of the country.
3. Band Procession
4. Live Recitation/Singing Poetic Songs in the procession.
5. Speeches by the eminent personalities
6. Flag Hoisting and Distribution of snacks to all the participants.

4. In the year 2003-2004, we arranged Football Tournament which was affiliated to Howrah District Sports Association. This type of rare tournament was participated by various teams including some 1st division teams from Kolkata, 24 Parganas. Now-a-days this Tournament is considered as one of the best attractive tournaments in Howrah District. During this last two years, the eminent sports personalities including Mr. Subhash Chakraborty, Hon’ble Minister of Sports, Govt. of West Bengal, Mr. Gopal Mukherjee, Mayor of Howrah Municipal Corporation, Mr. Mohanta Chatterjee, Sabhadhipati of Howrah Zila Parishad (now Environment Minister of Govt. of West Bengal), MPs, MLAs, Mr. Subhas Bhowmick, Mr. Sudip Chatterjee, Mr. Amit Bhadra, the former Football Players/Coaches were present.

5. In a general body meeting held in 2004, we planned to undertake a major developmental project for the overall upliftment of the social life of the local residents. The following were considered to be important by the newly constituted development committee :-

1. Football Ground
2. Children Park
3. Swimming Pool
4. Students’ Library with study room
5. Gymnasium
6. Community Hall

In the 1st Phase of such a large project, we have been successful in constructing a Children Park and Football Ground, about Rs.9.00 Lacs (Rupees Nine Lacs) was spent and we are extremely happy to see that these new facilities are regularly usedby the inhabitants of Thanamakhua Gram Panchayet area as well as of Andul, Bakultala, Unsani, Danesh Sh. Lane, Sankrail etc. etc.

1. In the 2nd Phase, we have a plan to build a new double-storied building, the construction work for which has already started. While a Gymnasium will be set up in the ground floor, a Students’ Library with a study room has been planned at the 1st floor. The total area for library is approx. 1000 sq.ft. and expenditure for completion of building with total finish is estimated to be around Rs.6.00 Lacs (Rupees Six Lacs). Apart from that to run a complete Library, we need Almirah, Bookshelf, Benches, Tables etc. We are planning to approach the local people for donation to meet a part of the expenses. Needless to mention, this building will not be in place, without handsome donation from various sponsor, business organisation. It will not be out of place to mention that in total Sankrail area, there is no Students’ Library with study room. We are confident that this Library will be useful to a large number of people.

2. We had also planned to make a Volleyball/ Basketball Ground for young girls for which san-filling work has already been completed. Now it needs earth-filling/grass plantation for which expenditure is estimated at Rs.75,000/- At present we have no fund to meet such expenses.
Currently we are facing considerable pressure in Children’s Park for short-space. Regularly 200 children alongwith their parents are coming to the park. The park needs to be more spacious and more toys are to be installed to provide better entertainment for the children.
